Hacker Takes Down New York Magazine After Landmark Cosby Story

On Sunday night, New York magazine dropped a landmark story featuring the 35 women who have accused comedian Bill Cosby of sexual assault. However, at the moment, you can’t read the story because a hacker has taken the magazine’s site offline.

According to The Daily Dot, a hacker calling himself ThreatKing has taken the site out of service through a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack and overloading New York’s servers with traffic. The website has been down since this morning, and at the time of writing is still inaccessible. The attack, though, doesn’t seem to be an attempt by the hacker to silence the stories of Bill Cosby’s accusers; rather, ThreatKin claims that this attack is merely a response to his dislike of New York City. In a Skype chat with The Daily Dot, ThreatKing said:

“Many stupid people at [sic] New York…I have not even seen the cover, LOL. I went to new York 2 months ago. It was really bad…Someone pranked me. Everyone started laughing and shit. The first 10 hours being there. Some African-American tried to prank me with a fake hand gun.”

ThreatKing claimed responsibility for the attack under the Twitter handle @Vikingdom2016. He added that he’ll do what he can to keep New York’s website down for 14 hours.

New York magazine is currently redirecting readers to their Instagram page, where some of the women share their testimony about Cosby.
