Today, Hinge won the DCWEEK Pitch Jam competition with their groovy one-minute pitch.

Hinge is a dating site that connects you with friends of friends. Their pitch featured “slow jam” music in the background, backup singing about the perils of online dating (like “axe murderers”), and a smidgen of judge flattery.

Second place was captured by Umba Box, a monthly subscription box of handmade goods for women. And third place went to Barrel of Jobs, which helps people get cash for making job referrals.

Competitors faced off with one-minute startup pitches, which were scored by the judges on a scale of 1 to 10. The goal was to help startups refine the perfect “elevator pitch,” not necessarily judge the product or business.

Prizes included stays at Embassy Suites, coworking space at Intelligent Office, Otterbox cases, and Zappos gift certificates.

Here are the other startups that competed:

  • Treater: An app that lets you send small gifts to your friends, like coffee, dinner, or a massage.
  • CoFoundersLab: An online matching service for entrepreneurs looking for cofounders, which also holds offline events.
  • 2CommaKid: A street wear clothing brand with an inspirational message.
  • Feastly: A site that connects hungry people with great cooks, to eat meals in their homes.
  • Tixelated: A site that helps people raise money for their parties, with an initial focus on college students.
  • Dormify: An online store for dorm-room furnishings.
  • SocialTables: Software that helps event planners manage guest lists and seating charts.

  • MyMilitaryLife: Resources for military members and their families.
  • Meritocruitment: A site that helps candidates find jobs that fit their skills.
  • Blastroots: A platform where anyone can create a campaign to change public policies.
  • TeamVisibility: An app that helps sales and support leaders make their teams better.
