What Does 2017 Hold for the Future of Green Tech?

There are many emerging technologies that aim to improve the status of renewable energy, sustainability and efficiency in the world. They're the main focus of all people who look forward to tech that doesn’t harm the environment and helps us preserve this beautiful planet. These technologies go under one name: green tech.

New developments in this field have been frequently established and there's a lot more to expect in the following year. This field is anything but small, and it covers methods and materials that are continuously advancing alongside the techniques that range from generating clean energy to manufacturing non-toxic and environmentally-friendly products. Let’s take a glimpse at green tech’s future and what it holds for all of us ecological tech junkies:

Electric Cars

Tesla has announced full self-driving hardware on all cars. With this company giving its best efforts to attract more and more customers, we can only expect to see more competitors in the car industry to follow their example.

The only thing that’s discouraging is the fact that the forecasts about the number of people adopting this green tech solution. The numbers are very low, even in Europe where gas prices are almost twice as much as they are in the US.

The good news comes from Google’s Self-Driving Car project, as their self-driving car has successfully completed and mastered the first 90 percent of its driving tasks. It leaves us with hope that, in the near future, we'll all be able to enjoy the benefits of taking a ride in a self-driving vehicle in all of the world’s biggest metropolises.

We are also looking forward to seeing the result of the partnership formed by Faraday Future and LG Chem. Their new lithium-ion cells for electric cars are planned to have the highest energy density of all the currently available batteries in the electric car industry.

Alternative Energy Generation

Although the major incentive that drives wind energy generation is driven by our reactive mindset, it is always nice to look forward to the expansion of this energy generation method. Currently, 45 percent of the total electricity demand in the US is supplied via wind energy generation plants.

Furthermore, a study published in the journal Nature Climate Change shows that we can expect that by 2030 all of the US electricity demands could be met by using the sun and wind.

In the meantime, experts at ITER are trying to harness the power of fusion. This nuclear reaction is so powerful that it actually powers all the stars in the universe. This could potentially be a source of safe, non-carbon emitting and basically limitless energy. Will there be some new developments in this field? 2017 has the answers we seek.

The Marine Industry

It’s good that the marine industry is adopting green tech, as water is very susceptible to pollution. And from what we have seen thus far, we can expect many new developments in this field, such as green yachts that help reduce propulsion power. The trend of using new synthetic materials in this industry is good news for teak trees, considering that 200 of these trees are needed to make the deck of an average yacht.

This trend will help preserve seas and oceans around the world. We can expect more and more yachts with hybrid engines and carbon offsetting. Partially powered by solar technology these yachts will be available on the market in 2017.

Green Homes

The idea of having and building green homes is a very powerful incentive for experts and researchers in the green tech field. The tendency is not only to have them made by eco-friendly materials, but to also make the power sustainable and green. Tesla is also one of the major players in this field and, considering how many solutions they have provided us so far, this year we can expect many more to come in 2017.

We can look forward to new technologies that will help us more efficiently harness the power of the sun in order to minimize our reliance on the fossil fuels. Also, there are a lot of eco-friendly home utilities to be found on the market these days.
