Every year I struggle to find awesome holiday gifts for my family; they’re a tough bunch to shop for each with varied interests and personalities. For a while I tried giving them all good books, but those usually landed on a bookshelf never to see the light of day again.
Last year was a smashing success with the change of pace, all-family gift of Settlers of Catan. And while I might be the reigning champ in our house, going back-to-back board games is taboo.
This year I began my search early, like beginning of July early, when thinking what to get the clan for the holidays. As summer faded into fall, I found myself covering some amazing startups that fall under the Gear & Gadgets category on our site when it hit me: these are the perfect gift ideas.
For everybody out there looking for a genuinely unique holiday gift, I’ve decided to do a round-up of the coolest hardware I’ve covered for Tech Cocktail. The best part is that these aren’t your run-of-the-mill gifts, so you’ll blow your family’s, friends’, and co-workers’ minds with them.
Try one of these 6 options this year:
AudioActiv: For the music lovers you know, the Vault cases created by AudioActiv are water-, dirt-, and impact-proof. They work for Bluetooth speaker sets on Bose, Braven, Jawbone, and Soundmatters cases, so you can literally take your music anywhere.
Coin: First off, know that Coin isn’t shipping until summer 2014; however, the company is adamant about sticking to that date, so it’s safe to pre-order and gift. This nifty gadget serves as a replacement for all of your credit cards and stores their data electronically.
Flip-Pal: This portable scanner can tackle any project no matter the item or its size. It uses sophisticated software to stitch together any project that doesn’t fit in the viewfinder and can power through any stack of receipts, paintings, or jewelry (yes, real jewelry) in no time.
Octa: Their creative line of TabletTails is sure to please anybody that has a tablet, which is pretty much everyone you know. Coming in two varietals – whale and monkey – they help you stop adjusting your body to your technology and make it fit your life and perspective.
Skulpt: For the fitness buffs, Skulpt is perfect. It’s another one of those products that’s only open for pre-order right now, but it’s also guaranteed to hit the market in May 2014. It allows anybody to measure the body fat percentage of any body part by simply holding the device against the skin.
Trellie: This simple accessory-keychain connects to your phone via Bluetooth and lights up whenever you have incoming calls. Leave your phone in your backpack, purse, or desk; as long as you can see Trellie, you’ll never miss a call again.
