Hush Blows Their $100K Kickstarter Goal Out of the Water

There’s still 33 days to go on Hush’s Kickstarter campaign, but they’ve already hit their $100,000 funding goal; in fact, they’ve hit $137,416. What makes their Kickstarter so enticing to people is the fact that Hush has figured out how to tune out your loud neighbors, snoring roommates, and noisy streets.

Hush introduced us to the world’s first smart earplugs, raising $25,000 in day one of their campaign. As a new entry into the world of wearables, Hush is an in-ear device that combines sound-eliminating foam and noise masking to isolate the user from surrounding disturbances.

“Noise bothering sleep has deeper societal implications as one in four American couples end up sleeping in separate bedrooms as a result of snoring,” says Lee.

The earplugs are controlled wirelessly through a smartphone app, with adjustable settings that allow for one to hear necessary notifications. It effectively guarantees you a peaceful night of sleep while still maintaining the functions of important applications such as one’s alarm clock or emergency phone calls.

“Wearables shouldn’t just critique but they should enable. Rather than just compiling data to tell you you’re sleeping badly, they should actually give you a way to sleep better,” says Hush co-founder and CEO Daniel Lee. “This is a new way for people to deal with noise, perhaps the most significant deterrent to sleep.”

Since the $100,000 has been hit, Hush will be able to fulfill their goal to begin production and distribution of their smart earplugs. Those who choose to invest during the campaign will be able to take advantage of the $99 early-adopter price until December 23: otherwise Hush will retail at $149 when they hit shelves in Spring 2015.

The startup came from the minds of three UCSD engineers driven by their own experiences of sleeping poorly in noisy college environments. They’ve received guidance and support from a number of locals, and the high-tech incubator EvoNexus has been their home while they continue to grow.
