Today at the F8 Summit Imgur announced the launch of Imgur React, a way to easily communicate with GIFs across mobile applications. It was built out as a simple interface within the Imgur iOS app that lets Imgurians brows GIFs organized by expressions and then share across other mobile apps.
Imgur announced that Facebook Messenger will be the first app to feature Imgur React. Through the new feature hundreds of millions of users will have instant access to the massive collection of GIFs already on Imgur.
“Images are the most natural way of expressing yourself on mobile,” says Sam Gerstenzang, Director of Product at Imgur. “Imgur React makes it easier than ever to find the perfect GIF and share it with your friends in mobile applications.”
Outside of Facebook Messenger, Imgurians will be able to share GIFs into other apps like Facebook Mobile, emails, text messages, and WeChat shortly after launch. Native sharing buttons within the Imgur iOS will also be used to make it simple to discover and share right into any Messenger conversation.
“We are thrilled to work with Facebook to launch Imgur React,” says Imgur CEO Alan Schaaf. “Messenger is one of the best places for people to express themselves online, and we’re excited to bring React to that experience. Imgur began six years ago by making image sharing fast and easy on desktop. Today, Imgur is working to solve that problem for mobile.”
Imgur is continuing a dominant trend to grow their mobile offerings, which is where they see the trends heading. Imgur React follows the launch of the official iOS app and sets the stage for the launch of the redesigned Android app coming in June.
