7 Most Important Features of Cloud Storage for Small Businesses

With 87 percent of computing services projected to be handled by cloud-based services by 2019, startups and large businesses are scrambling to get their digital ducks in a row. Granted, the speed of change has notably skyrocketed in recent years, but that's no excuse for falling behind the curve. If you want your company to compete, you're going to have to get on board with this new trend.

However, while this new technology has made life so much easier for employees and founders alike, it comes with a few caveats. However, if your cloud storage service meets a few key requirements, you could be set up for success in the long run.

“When it comes to business, cloud-based computing can expand smaller operations into global forces,” wrote the authors of a Summit Hosting study. “By multiplying a company’s resources with minimal hands-on effort, cloud services can help small businesses reach new customer demographics and increase their offerings regardless of their size.”

So what are these necessary features? Thanks to some pretty impressive research, we now know that security is the most important feature of cloud storage services. With dozens of newsworthy data breaches occurring over the last few months, this hardly comes as a surprise.

“While solutions like CRMs and technology deployment services can help streamline or even evolve standard processes for business customers, these solutions may end up housing very sensitive customer or vendor data that makes security a top priority,” wrote the authors of the study.

As for the other important features, performance came in second, with available data space, easy of use, and cost rounding out the top five. Using data combined over the last five decades, the authors of the study “examined the cost of hard drive storage over the years, as well as the growth of cloud-based solutions today and into the future.”
