Yesterday, Apple announced that they had surpassed 10 billion downloaded apps in the iTunes app store. That is a pretty amazing accomplishment and it only took Apple two and a half years. They had been running the 10 billion app countdown where one lucky winner could take home a $10,000 iTunes gift card. They have not announced the winner yet. UPDATE: The winner was Gail Davis of Orpington, Kent, in Britain. She downloaded the free game app called Paper Glider.

It took just nine months for Apple to reach one billion downloads and a little over one year to hit two billion. So it seems the growth then accelerated get to 10 billion today.

How many apps have you contributed to this count? Do a quick count on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and let us know in the comments below.
