I am a huge fan of Jetsetter by the Gilt Groupe for its combination of unique destinations and upscale hotel offers presented with large, stunning photos of the property advertised – bringing a sleek and sexy feel to each travel opportunity. LivingSocial acquired Urban Escapes recently and they have already put the acquisition to use, launching their new site today, LivingSocial Escapes, to it’s 10 million monthly subscribers. Check out the two emails I received from both services, side by side, Jetsetter vs. LivingSocial Escapes. See any resemblance?
While the emails may look similar, the services are slightly different as LivingSocial Escapes aims to offer more uniquely curated adventures and Jetsetter tends to focus more on luxury destinations. It is not clear the size of the market that Jetsetter has been able to secure but there is certainly room for more travel deals. Why? Because consumers, including myself, like saving money on travel. Not to mention, we also like to dream of the day we can escape for a lovely vacation at an interesting island getaway or exciting mountain adventure. So the more travel deal options out there, the better. These emails provide a momentary vicarious vacation from the rest of my inbox, so I say, keep them coming.
