Yesterday marked the official launch of the KDJ-ONE Kickstarter campaign. There are currently 38 days left on the campaign clock and so far the KDJ-ONE has raised $32,371 of their total $100,000 goal.
KDJ-ONE is a portable music studio that’s good for both beginners and professionals alike. It features just about every tool you need for musical creations all in one device: synthesizer, sequencer, mixer, and sampler. The battery lasts 10 hours in between charges as well.
The immediate benefit here is for music producers; with a KDJ-ONE they can forego spending thousands of dollars to setup an environment. It’s also helpful for musicians who spend a lot of their time on the road away from their main studio or office.
As the main creator of KDJ-ONE, Yutaka Owada wanted to build a sound production tool that could be used by anyone though. That is, it wasn’t built strictly for professional musicians or music recording studios. Owada put all the major studio devices in one little box to help facilitate that goal.
There are already professional musicians using the KDJ-ONE, including Sid Wilson (Slipknot), composer Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger), and synthesizer specialist Katsunori Ujiie (musictrack.jp). And the developers even thew together a SoundCloud album to showcase the dynamic range of the KDJ-ONE as well.
Not only does it look super fun and cool, it can put out some serious tracks; it’s a total workhorse. Check out this video showing how the machine works:
