We’ve reached a point where every first-aid kit should come with some kind of easy phone charging device. As someone who spends a lot of time outdoors (camping, hiking, other various nature communing activities) there’s been several occasions where despite my best battery saving efforts, I get that moment of panic that my phone is going to die at a time when I might REALLY need it (as in, not for taking pics of wildflowers…although having battery life to do that would be nice too). Spoiler alert: Mother Nature did not provide any outlets in the woods.
A team out of Utah has created JUCE, a tiny, lightweight, pre-charged device with a built in cord that will instantly charge your dying iPhone or Android. It weighs less than 1 oz and is the size of a matchbook. It’s also fully rechargeable and recyclable. It can be useful for anything from dire emergencies when your phone is your only source of communication, or for more casual occasions like when your phone is at 1% battery, and you’re in the presence of the most beautiful sunset you’ve ever seen in your life.
JUCE is described as “A Jolt of Creative Energy” and comes with the following selling points:
- Power to Size Ratio – It weighs less than an ounce, is the size of a matchbook and is packing a 1000 mAh battery. The device will provide you with a bridge charge up to 50%.
2 Convenience – It comes 100% pre-charged with a small built-in cord that is designed to charge both Apple and Android. This makes it possible to take JUCE with you anywhere and eliminates the need for a tangle of cords and a bulky power bank.
3 Customizable – JUCE is fully customizable covering a wide range of possibilities. It can be used for corporate branding, company swag, business cards, promo items, featured artists and marketing materials…just to name a few.
4 Price Point – At a low $10 price point, you can buy multiple and keep them wherever you might need them. Stash them in your car, purse, backpack, gym bag, and emergency kit. They are guaranteed to hold a charge for a minimum of 1 year.
Their Kickstarter campaign has 13 days left and they’ve reached almost $11k of their $30k goal. Their stretch goal is to create custom JUCE vending machines so that people can purchase them on the spot, anywhere from amusement parks, to bars, to the beach. I’ve only backed a couple Kickstarters in my day, but this is one I’m seriously considering backing, because I would get a lot of use out of this product. I would buy them for all my camping buddies as well.
