Let’s Get Physical During A Business Trip With Gymsurfing

No more excuses, just because you are traveling it doesn’t mean that you can’t get your body moving.

That’s the idea behind Gymsurfing, a mobile app that allows travelers to book gym day passes on the phone. Moreover, the San Francisco-based startup announced that it has acquired Miami-based rival GymXchange for US $1 million in all stocks deal.

“We are extremely excited to welcome the GymXchange team to Gymsurfing. They bring with them great talent and great gyms. We can’t wait to work together to make going to the gym while traveling as simple as two taps on your phone,” said Kevin Bracken, Gymsurfing CEO.

All told, the acquisition brings Gymsurfing’s inventory of gyms – many of which feature exclusive day pass prices of as low as $5 – to 150 gyms in cities like New York, San Francisco, Miami, Toronto, Montreal and others. The app allows travelers to skip the hotel gym, and gives gym owners a new source of revenue at no cost.

“This is a great day for all of us. It was clear to me that we shared the same vision from the start. I asked for a meeting in San Francisco, and within minutes of getting there, the synergy was so obvious,” said Jeff Winkler, formerly GymXchange CEO and now head of business development for Gymsurfing.

The company plans to use their coalition to take on their last remaining US competitor GymPoints, and advance toward their goal of having a Gymsurfing gym in every city in North America.
