The rise of mobile photography has turned everyone into paparazzi, documenting and sharing their latest happenings both publicly and privately. We’ve covered a couple of the most recent entrants in the mobile photo sharing space and today we are excited to examine another extremely interesting photo sharing service that has entered the mix. LiveShare by Cooliris is a new and hyper-personal way to communicate with friends via mobile devices and web through live, shared group photo streams. LiveShare lets you create streams on the fly, make them as private or public as you want, and see the stream update in real-time with the photos from all the people in the group. Since the app offers public streams, you can find people attending the same events or hanging out in the same places you are by the way photos are organized (by location/events).
LiveShare is now available free on iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone 7, as well as at liveshare.com.
Cooliris is known for turning digital content into immersive visual experiences – and they’ve carved out a great space for themselves. For example, it’s desktop Cooliris 3D Wall has over 35 million downloads and it’s iPad app Discover enables you to explore Wikipedia by photo. Cooliris also recently rolled out some major advertising innovations by creating 3D advertisement. And now LiveShare takes images to the hyper-local level as users can share photos by location and in streams.
Cooliris first received funding in January of 2006 and to date has received $28.1 million dollars by such investors as Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, DAG Ventures, The Westly Group, and T-Venture. More recently, they announced their Series C round of $9.6 million. The company will use these new funds, and strategic partnerships, to further scale their monetizable user base and revenues. Cooliris is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, with offices in Tokyo and Singapore.
LiveShare is our title sponsor for the upcoming Tech Cocktail SXSW mixer on March 13th. With thousands of attendees registered, the event is currently listed as one of the top SXSW events by Plancast. If you’ll be joining us for the festivities, make sure to download the LiveShare by Cooliris mobile application before the big event and start sharing some pics. Downloading the app and sharing pictures will give you an opportunity to win some great prizes at the event. To find out more about LiveShare and what they are up to at SXSW visit their Facebook page.
