We’ve been following Local Motors’ recent sponsorship of NASCAR driver Ben Kennedy over the last few months. As part of their sponsorship deal, and to highlight the cocreation that fuels Local Motors, the community was invited to participate in a special contest.

Aptly named the ‘Ben Kennedy Helmet Design Challenge’, community members designed what Kennedy’s new Local Motors helmet will look like. All told there were 69 helmet entries, and after a week of voting the field has been narrowed down to five final designs.

Kennedy and his team will vote on the designs internally and select one winner, which he will debut in an upcoming race on May 14 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Here are the five finalist helmet designs in the contest – all are owned by Local Motors Inc and the respective designers listed:

Narcis Mares

Serdo Milletic

Vasilatos Ianis

Andre Costa

Jamie Choi
