Have you ever noticed that a pleasant trip to the local shopping mall is always difficult? It is either too far away, the traffic is a nightmare, or your favorite store has been replaced by a gross pretzel stand.
It is at those times that we can count ourselves lucky to have online shopping. However, for all of the bonuses inherent in the online market, it certainly has one drawback that nobody can avoid: the shopping cart.
Of course, it was unavoidable until Susan Akbarpour and Brom Mahbod created Mavatar, a universal shopping cart dedicated to making online shopping even more convenient for all of us.
Mavatar aggregates and keeps track of any item you add from the affiliated retail chains within the universal shopping cart. The list of retailers includes Banana Republic, Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale’s, Gap, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Old Navy: not too shabby.
Whenever you add an item, Mavatar automatically searches for bargains or deals for that specific item. Should there be a deal available, it is automatically applied so you can get the best possible price.
“All online shoppers everywhere can make good use of Mavatar,” says Haghighat. “Most of the time there are more deals online, and stores tend to have better online inventory, but a lot of shoppers are unaware of that.”
Additionally, once users have their items within their universal shopping cart, they can easily compare them and plan entire outfits across multiple storefronts. All of this is done without ever exiting Mavatar.
Perhaps the true stroke of genius is that users can create collaborative wish lists to be shared with any other Mavatar user. So if you need to get dad something for Father’s Day, you, your mother, and your siblings can all access the same shopping list to decide on the perfect watch, tie, or suit for him. It also works well for holidays, birthdays, and wedding or baby showers.
I will be the first to admit that I am a dude who loves to shop, and if Mavatar can help get me my fresh Nikes while avoiding horrific Southern California traffic, I am sold.
Mavatar was featured at Tech Cocktail’s San Francisco Mixer & Startup Showcase on May 22nd and won best pitch in our live poll.
