It’s time to share this week’s installation of Social Snacks! Tech.Co has partnered with Digital Royalty to bring you this web series where industry executives, community managers, brands, and social media enthusiasts can watch a short snackable video and stay updated on the top trending social media news stories and brand advocacy ideas from around the world. The team at Digital Royalty covers just about everything social.

This week, Tumblr gets a big update. They rolled out new call to action buttons (“Buy”, “Pledge” and “Get Involved”) for users who share links to certain ecommerce and crowdfunding sites on their Tumblr posts. The initial sites participating in these updates are Etsy, Artsy, Kickstarter, and DOsomething.org, and these options are available only on mobile.

Lord & Taylor revealed a new Instagram campaign for their Design Lab, where they asked 50 fashion influencers to post pics of themselves wearing the same dress. The campaign was highly successful and the dress ended up selling out. Side note: did this wildly successful brand advocacy coup make some advertising errors where the FTC is involved?

Even as Meerkat launched, there was talk of a competitor hot on its heels, so we now have a complete battle royale between social streaming apps Meerkat and Periscope. Which is better? Chelsea and John break down these apps, sharing some of the better aspects of each.
