Microsoft Corp announced today that it is opening the first US-based Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC) in Downtown Miami. The center will be in Venture Hive, and it will be equipped with the latest technology and tools to facilitate collaboration and drive job creation.
“There is a great commitment from the city [Miami] and county in terms of innovation and driving the local economy. There is a great population of youth and students and commitment of different organizations to creating jobs. And Miami is a great launching point for Latin America,” says Sanket Akerkar, vice president of Developer & Platform Evangelism, Microsoft.
The Miami MIC will specifically target four primary audiences:
- Local and LATAM community
This is exciting news for Miami’s ecosystem.
“Having the first MIC in the U.S. located in Miami demonstrates that our technology community is not only growing, it’s thriving,” said Tomas Regalado, mayor of the city of Miami.
This specific MIC is part of the Microsoft CityNext initiative, a program focused on accelerating innovation in urban areas by harnessing ideas to create a more sustainable place to live.
“It’s about innovation and leveraging new technologies to find solutions in the city. It’s about entrepreneurship, helping new businesses, and creating new jobs. And it’s about skill building. By having one location where organizations know they can come to create opportunities.” says Akerkar.
