Today we learned that DC-area startup Mixx was acquired by UberMedia, parent company of UberTwitter, Echofon, Twidroyd and PostUp Marketplace. Kerry Parkins, Vice President of Products and Marketing and previous long time AOLer, posted this on the Mixx blog today:

We’re excited to announce that Mixx was recently acquired by UberMedia, which will allow us to continue to give you a way to fine tune social media to your own interests. UberMedia is parent to some incredible products like (UberTwitter,EchofonTwidroyd, and PostUp Marketplace) and run by a team of rock stars, all determined to help make Mixx better than ever—which will require some pretty radical changes. As you know, social media is constantly evolving, and Mixx will be evolving, too. Over the next month, we will be retiring Mixx Classic and relaunching with a new Mixx product soon thereafter.

Before you ask: Yes! The new Mixx will remain true to our personalization mission, and it will continue to leverage both the current Mixx infrastructure and the dominant social media networks. Now, if you look at Your Account, you’ ll see a new tab that will show all of your submissions and favorites—you’ ll be able to save all of this data. We are very sorry to say that, because the new Mixx will use a different ID system, your connections will not carry over. But we know that a lot of friendships were made through Mixx, so we’d recommend using Mixx Mail to reach out to your Fans and Friends and set up another way to keep in touch.

We expect the new Mixx to launch next month, and we’ll send out email when its ready. We’re excited by this new phase of Mixx and we thank every one of you for your amazing contributions and your help making Mixx the place we always wanted to hang out.

We covered the Mixx launch back in 2007 and also visited the Mixx McLean, Virginia headquarters before and talked with CEO Chris McGill in this video interview. Congrats on the acquisition and good luck with the new Mixx.
