“Plan less. Live more,” Sam Shank says, is the focus of HotelTonight. “We focus on the absolute best experience for getting you into a great room at the best price at the last minute.”
Shank says his company has major contenders to compete against. Priceline and Expedia have dominated a vast area of the travel booking market, so HotelTonight has to focus on, and be really passionate about, what they do. Putting the focus on last-minute travel only, and building relationships with the hotels helps create a scenario where “everyone wins.”
HotelTonight is one example of a growing number of tech startups that are focusing on the mobile first platform. This allows the product to be positioned for the future of tech, and also provides the functionality essential to a serendipitous and spontaneous travel lifestyle.
This isn’t Shank’s first travel startup, but he has carried the knowledge about hiring and fundraising in a startup, along with the experience of spotting trends, to work toward HotelTonight’s success. He prides the team on their ability to spot the trend of last minute travel early on.
