When was the last time you were in a post office, trying to figure out how to ship that big box at an affordable yet reliable price? If it’s been a while, lucky you because it’s a hassle. Between finding the right service, the safe package, packing it carefully while putting up with the Post Office clerk’s passive aggression, the experience is not great.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have anything you want to ship care for you? That’s what San Francisco-based startup Shyp offers customers: on-demand shipping service from your mobile phone. They just announced they will be launching tneir services in Miami right before the holiday season, where they are opening one of their warehouses. Miami will be the third city  after San Francisco and New York City.

Shyp allows customers who wish to use their shipping service to take a picture of what they are shipping, enter their address and the address that the items are being sent to, and what kinf of service they require (next day, international, etc.) A Shyp driver then picks up the item and takes it to the company’s local warehouse for boxing up and shipping.

“We just make everything a non-brainer,” explains co-founder Kevin Gibbon. “We help those who face the biggest friction: small business and individuals.”

Shyp does the work of packaging the item and determines the best shipping service to use,  which is why they also have local warehouses. But most importantly, Shyp always goes with the lowest cost and highest reliability for your package.  And even better,  the company provides insurance of up to $1,000 per item to guarantee safe delivery.

As of now, Shyp focuses on lower volume shipping, with most of its customers being e-commerce small retailers.

“Miami is a world hub with a high e-commerce density per capital. We are thrilled to be launching in Miami, and we’re looking forward to being involved in growing the local tech community,” said Gibbon.

Shyp recently closed their Series A round, raising a total of funding of US $12.2M led by Sherpa Ventures.

Miami customers can sign up to the Beta launch here.
