Calling all dog lovers! Walkzee, a new online platform for dog lovers, is set to launch in June 2015. There’s only one thing holding them back at this point, and that’s hitting their $20,000 funding goal on Kickstarter.
With currently 15 days left on the clock, Cristina and Charlie Saunders have raised $13,421 towards their goal, and, if successful, the program will help create the first online platform connecting shelter dogs with walking buddies. With the funding goal met, the Saunders team is hoping to drive product and operation, support the site when it goes live, and engage with shelters.
A big part of driving the product will be building out their phase two plants, which include adding new features to support the ease of use for shelters.
“Walkzee was started as a result of one wrong turn while vacationing in Kauai, Hawaii. On the first day of our honeymoon, while on our first hike, we thought: wouldn’t it be cool if there was an app where you could find a dog to walk when you are away from home?” says Saunders.
Not thinking much of the idea (they were on their honeymoon after all), the duo traveled towards the South shore but got lost. Instead of their hiking destination though, they wound up at the Human Society.
“We both have a love for dogs, and sure enough we saw a sign about a dog field trip,” says Saunders. “We felt like it was fate. A day later, we took the trip back and picked up a large lab for our field trip. He hadn’t been out in a while because he was so large, so we took Big Z out for a hike and a long walk on the beach. He was the perfect dog.”
That very day they thought about their idea and how there are so any workers, travelers, and dog lovers who want to walk dogs but might not have one. Meanwhile, there are millions of shelter dogs just waiting to be engaged with.
It all boils down to one philosophy that helped build Walkzee: connect both human and canine for happier, healthier lives.
