With 2008 being the first elections that utilized social technology like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube for political campaigns, we named Barack Obama the first Tech President. We expected that to continue in 2012, so we were excited to see the news that longtime Tech Cocktail supporter and former Threadless CTO Harper Reed is the CTO of the 2012 Obama Presidential Campaign. It only makes sense bringing on a seasoned technologist like Harper Reed to lead the way. Harper has spent the last few years helping startups like TapMe and a few others, as well as working on his own projects.

If you are unfamiliar with Harper Reed, you might want to check out some of our previous articles to learn more about him. He spoke at our Startup Mixology Conference in Chicago last October, and there’s also a video of his talk, “Creating a Culture of Problem Solvers” that’s really interesting to watch.  Back in March 2008, he gave me a tour of the Chicago Threadless office, which you can watch in this video.

We’ve known Harper Reed for quite sometime now, and we are happy to see him doing well. We look forward to what he has brewing from a technology perspective with the 2012 campaign.
