Last time we met the Michigan born, Boulder, Colorado based startup Occipital they were focusing on the soon-to-be-launching Occipital ClearCam iPhone application that helped improve the quality of your photos. It was an innovative notion at the time as it turned your 2 megapixel iPhone photos into a 4 megapixel photo in just a few simple clicks of the thumb.

Soon after, Occipital created Red Laser, a rather handy and popular iPhone application that turns the phone into a bar code reader for comparison shopping of any product. So we were excited to find out this past week that eBay has acquired Red Laser so that Occipital will be able to refocus on being a computer vision technology company and begin to develop additional products.

Congrats to the Red Laser team. We look forward to seeing Red Laser continue to evolve under the direction of eBay, and Occipital continuing to create innovative new products.
