Jeanne Mariani Sullivan


Ms. Jeanne Mariani Sullivan, J.D., is a Co-Founder and Special Advisor at StarVest Partners, L.P. Ms. Sullivan was a General Partner at the firm. Ms. Sullivan contributes in the areas of marketing, channel development, product direction, and strategic participation in the exit strategies of technology companies. Ms. Sullivan is a frequent Guest Lecturer on the subject of investing in and building technology companies. She is active with the Natural Resource Defense Council.

She established the New York area Environmental Entrepreneurs group comprised of business and technology leaders. Ms. Sullivan has spent over 20 years as a founding principal of the firm. She served as an Adjunct Professor of Marketing at the graduate level. Prior to this, her business career includes 28 years in the information technology field and 16 years in the venture capital business as a Managing Director for Olivetti Ventures, 4C Ventures, captive funds of Ing. C. Olivetti & C., and S.p.A. From 1990 to 1997, Ms. Sullivan was an Investing Principal of Olivetti Ventures. Her responsibilities included deal flow, portfolio management, and strategic participation in exit strategies. Ms. Sullivan has invested in a wide range of technology companies, including communications products, hardware and software tools, enabling technologies for the Internet, Web-based content, enterprise software, and semiconductors. From 1981 to 1990, she was at AT&T and was the Product Director for a Bell Laboratories Internal Venture Business Unit. At AT&T, Ms. Sullivan served in a variety of product management and business-to-business marketing roles. From 1971 to 1978, she was at Bozell Worldwide in business marketing and Production Director roles. Her prior experience in marketing and advertising with Bozell Worldwide (1971–1978) gave Ms. Sullivan the business foundation for creating and developing marketing programs and plans for many businesses. She was part of the founding group for the New York New Media Association Angel Investors Program.

Ms. Sullivan helped build the New York New Media Angel Investors Program and served as the Chairman of the selection program. Ms. Sullivan has been part of the technology revolution since the early 80’s years and has worked with and built some of the world’s greatest high technology companies. She is a Member of Advisory Board of The Water Initiative, Inc. Ms. Sullivan represents StarVest on the Boards of BlueStreak, Inc., IRON Solutions, LLC and Roving Planet. She is a member of the Astia Board of Trustees. Ms. Sullivan serves as a Member of Advisory Board of Smarteys, Inc. She serves as Member of Advisory Board for Horn Group, Inc. She serves on the board of the New York Venture Capital Association (NYVCA) and has a passion for supporting and mentoring rising stars as entrepreneurs and investors. She has served on the boards of private and public companies. She served as a Director of Tibersoft Corporation. She had also served on the Board of Directors of several of the Olivetti’s technology portfolio companies. She served as a Director of Mazu Networks, Inc. She served as a Director of Blazent. Ms. Sullivan is also a member of the Women in New Media, the MIT Enterprise Forum, and is active with the NRDC. Ms. Sullivan is active with Springboard, Women in Mobile (WIM), Womensphere, The Pipeline Fund, Golden Seeds, and Women 2.0. She is also a newly appointed member of the Leadership Council of the College of Media for University of Illinois.

She has more than 20 years of private equity experience and has spent 28 years in the technology sector encompassing both extensive operating and investing experience with technology companies. She has extensive experience creating “go to market” plans for expansion stage companies. Ms. Sullivan’s expertise also includes strategy, an understanding of the technology landscape and industry trends. She was recently cited by Forbes magazine as one of the “Women Changing the World” in her role as an influencer grooming the next generation of female VCs. She is a sought-after industry speaker on the subject of investing in and building technology companies. Ms. Sullivan holds a J.D. from Creighton University School of Law and a B.S. from the University of Illinois.
