The Rise of the Rest tour is presented by Revolution, Google for Entrepreneurs, Salesforce for Startups, Village Capital, Economic Innovation Group, Inc., and Engine, withjoining on as a partner.
On its fifth round to highlight startup ecosystems outside of New York City and Silicon Valley, Steve Case announced today that the Rise of the Rest startup bus tour will make its way to some of America’s mountain cities in the west. Omaha/Lincoln, NE; Denver, CO; Salt Lake/Provo, UT; Albuquerque, NM; and Phoenix, AZ were the five western cities chosen among the eighty cities nominated for this tour – and, as is the case with previous Rise of the Rest tours, Case will be investing $100,000 to one lucky startup in each of the tour’s cities.
“The rest is rising and I am excited to hit the road once again on a quest to find the best entrepreneurs all across America,” said Case, cofounder of AOL and chairman and CEO of Revolution, in a statement. “Rise of the Rest celebrates the promise of rising entrepreneurial communities that, taken together, will help enable the U.S. to remain the most entrepreneurial nation in the world.”
This round of the Rise of the Rest tour will kick-off on October 3 with a tour through Omaha/Lincoln. Denver (October 4), Salt Lake City/Provo (October 5), Albuquerque (October 6), and Phoenix (October 7) will follow. In each of these cities, Case will host a pitch competition where judges will award $100,000 to one startup.
Beginning in 2014, the Rise of the Rest startup bus tour was aimed at highlighting cities “leading the charge in a new era of technological revitalization” – with anywhere from Richmond, VA to Buffalo, NY being included as stops in previous tours. Since 2014, Steve Case has invested more than $2 million in 20 startups across 20 cities in the United States.
