The San Francisco, CA-based Pivotal – the company that provides businesses with PaaS-based solutions utilizing Big Data, agile development, and the Cloud – has announced the opening of its new office in Chicago, IL. The new Chicago office is part of the company’s plan to expand across the U.S., and will house Pivotal Labs, the company’s agile development services unit which focuses on helping companies integrate agile development practices. Famed Merchandise Mart, which has become the epicenter of  tech activity in Chicago – with companies like Yelp, Motorola Mobility, and startup hub 1871 setting up shop in the historic building – will be the new home of Pivotal Labs.

“In a world defined by mobility and the cloud, successful enterprises today are taking ownership of their futures by rediscovering software development,” said Pivotal VP and Pivotal Labs COO Edward Hieatt in a statement. “Pivotal helps companies stay competitive in this world by providing the tools, processes and methodologies of disciplined agile development that help them think and move more like start-ups, and build innovative products and solutions. We’re delighted to open our doors in Chicago to serve growing appetite in this region for agile development methods.”

To celebrate today’s announcement Pivotal will be offering members of 1871’s startup community (more than 200 startups in the local Chicago ecosystem) with one year of free access to its project management tool Pivotal Tracker. The company is also planning on holding an exclusive, opening event at their new office.

With its new presence in Chicago’s tech ecosystem, Pivotal hopes to play an influential role in positively affecting the local economy, and plans on hiring graduates from local universities like the University of Chicago, Loyola University, DePaul, Illinois Institute of Tech, and Northwestern. The company is looking to hire engineers, developers, and consultants and will offer competitive salaries. If interested, check out their job openings.
