Unveiled at SXSW V2V, POP.co provides users with a .CO domain name, a custom webpage, and an email address powered by Google Apps for $5 per user per month.
Before, aspiring website owners had to sign up with at least two services – domain retailers like GoDaddy, website builders like Squarespace, and Google Apps – to get all these services. And that can be daunting for a business still in the idea stage. Many Startup Weekend entrepreneurs, for example, got a free .CO domain name but never created a website.
POP.co is a subsidiary of .CO, and the project was launched with $1 million in seed funding from the .CO founders, in collaboration with the Google Apps team. It extends .CO’s focus on small businesses and entrepreneurs, and its efforts to be associated with innovation and big ideas.
If you don’t like POP.co’s design options, you can also point your new domain to a website created on sites like Squarespace, Strikingly, or LaunchRock. And in the future, you’ll be able to add other third-party apps besides Google Apps – things like online stores and blogging. The POP.co team may also work with other top-level domain providers to offer things like POP.music or POP.health – the same concept, but for a non-.CO domain.
