Sol Vista enabled The Bernstein Companies to leverage a $25,000 investment in efficiency measures into annual savings of $300,000 and a huge ROI.
Sol Vista, a sustainability company based at the Silver Spring Innovation Center, specializes in data analytics for commercial buildings. Their innovative practices won them the Maryland Business Incubation Association’s Best Environment/Energy Company on June 10,2014. Many corporations are implementing sustainability initiatives, but Sol Vista utilizes technology to perform assessments, implement services, and provide building performance management services for commercial real estate owners throughout the United States. How does it work? Sol Vista identifies sources of waste and opportunities to optimize performance. Then they run that data through their proprietary software, Skywalk, which utilizes “currency filters” that assess cost and likely return on investment for each efficiency project. Skywalk is a data hub and analytics platform that provides actionable intelligence to reduce utility expenses, constantly finding new opportunities as building performance, incentives, and more viable technologies evolve over time.
The Sol Vista team and their analysis tool, Skywalk, have helped users cut utility costs by as much as 48% per site. They also save users money by (a) reducing time spent on utility data management from several hours each month to just minutes, (b) detecting utility billing errors and use anomalies, and (c) complying with annual benchmarking mandates.
Sol Vista’s clients include Hotel Monaco (Washington, DC), which was awarded the Technology Innovation Award for use of technology to create a better guest environment and reduce the hotel’s energy and water use; and the Shady Grove Innovation Center (Rockville, MD). These two clients have realized a return on investment of 48% and 53%, respectively.
