Rocket Internet’s Vaniday Launches Beauty Marketplace in Brazil

Vaniday has launched an online network of beauty and wellness professionals to help Brazilian customers find and book services from anywhere. A bit like GlamSquad but for Brasileiros, Vaniday covers a wide range of beauty and wellness services including: hairdressers, makeup and nail artists, waxing professionals, beauticians, tattoo artists, massage therapists, personal trainers, or yoga instructors. The company is backed by Rocket Internet, the leading internet platform outside the US and China.

It's surprising that there aren't many more online companies in Brazil that deliver beauty services given the market's demand for beauty service. According to Forbes, Brazilians’ per capita spending on beauty and personal care products is around $260 a year. According to Euromonitor 2013, it represents 58% of the Latin American beauty and personal care market.

“At Vaniday, our ambition is to connect anyone with the beauty and wellness services they need, whenever and wherever our customers demand it – whether at the hair salon, their home or their office,” explains Vaniday CEO and Founder Maxime Legardez. “We make it possible to get beauty and wellness services delivered as easily as you can book a hotel, buy a plane ticket, or get a taxi to your door.”

The service is available via their website, with an app launch coming soon for both iOS and Android.

According to statistics, consumers in Brazil spend more than 27 hours per month online using a desktop computer (global average: 24.7 per month). Furthermore 23.3%  of Brazilians use their phones to access the internet. Although the $42 billion beauty market operates based on word-of-mouth recommendations and ongoing relationships, the increasing number of smartphone users brings an opportunity for companies like Vaniday. It not only targets customers looking for services but also professionals looking for exposure.

“We give professionals who sign up for the service the tools to put themselves on the map, stand out, and grow,” says Legardez.
