Entrepreneurs are inspired to take action when they see opportunities others have missed. Northwestern University graduate student and founder of BragTaggs, Christopher Sell, found that friends and family alike loved to share the great deals they found. An entrepreneur with two startups on his resume, he began researching loyalty marketing, which fostered the idea of combining the fact that shoppers love to share their great finds with the competitive spirit of gaming and the growing popularity of socialized shopping. Mix in a retailer loyalty program, and you’ve got BragTaggs.
BragTaggs is a social shopping game that allows consumers to share great deals, “brag” to their friends about finds, and earn loyalty points with retailers and “shopping cred” with Likes received from other users. Because shoppers have a place to talk about what they have purchased and the deals they found and where they found them, all the while being rewarded for their loyalty, the stores providing those great deals and offers get great exposure.
It almost goes without saying that you can also share the deals you find through your social networks.
As an avid shopper and someone who has spent many years as a retail sales associate, I often get asked where I get my clothes. Admittedly, I am thrilled when I can show off my shopping moxie but not so sure I would give up the secrets to my shopping success. The loyalty rewards aspect of BragTaggs might just be the incentive for me to share.
Looking at the company through the lens of a marketer, though, and I see that all the sharing opportunities can raise the visibility of the retailers, but will the focus on the deals leave regularly priced merchandise overlooked, or is there an opportunity to merge the two – fashion finds and great deals? Sell believes strongly that BragTaggs can foster both retailer loyalty, repeat visits, and the purchase of non-sale items. My hope is that retailers see the opportunity to not only leverage the loyalty afforded by BragTaggs, but train sales associates in strategic cross-selling and customer service to maximize the benefits of using this platform.
