SpeedX is a company specializing in the development of biking products and, last year, they developed the world’s smartest cycling computer, SpeedForce. The feedback they got was huge, with people loving the product and encouraging the company to develop their own bikes.

With that much demand, SpeedX went for it – secretly at first, but they recently showed all the cards and presented the SpeedX Leopard, the first truly smart and connected road bike. Yesterday, they launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of the bike, and the initial $50,000 goal was reached within two hours. So far, over $180,000 have been pledged.

The frame of Leopard is built entirely in carbon fiber, providing it with additional strength, speed, and less weight than the aluminum or steel counterparts. All this provides the user with a competition-level performance, with a lifetime guarantee on the frame. Another interesting thing to highlight is that all the wires are hidden.

In addition, the SpeedX Smart Control gives the bike a “brain”, taking care of everything except the actual cycling. It records twelve items of riding data (lap time, cadence, heartrate, time, speed, calories, altitude, GPS, distance, weather, power and slope) and provides users with professional analysis in real-time with its built-in 2.4-inch screen.

By presenting so much information, the SpeedX Smart Control eliminates the need for using any other device on the bike. It also brings added security, as the light built in the device will automatically turn on when it gets dark outside, and its intensity will also adjust as it gets darker. The bike also has a dock for an action camera to be placed.

The SpeedX Leopard has a very appealing design, something that has to do with the fact that it was designed by the frog – one of the world’s best design companies. It will retail for $1,399, which is a great price considering that most competitors go for twice that sum. However, if you are fast enough, there is the possibility to get one for an ever lower price on Kickstarter.
