Scott and Stacey Ferreira’s inspiration comes from high school, when the brother-and-sister duo noticed that content was disorganized online and took too many steps to actually view (like usernames and passwords). They set out to build a platform that allows easy access to your favorite things on the web. With this idea, they went from broke college students to getting $1 million in seed funding from Richard Branson, Jerry Murdock, and Alex Welch (founder of Photobucket).
MySocialCloud offer two main solutions. One helps you store and keep track of online passwords for various sites. When using MySocialCloud, you automatically enter the sites you regularly visit (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) without having to remember and type in your various passwords.
Second, MySocialCloud is making bookmarking social. They give individuals a single location to easily store everything they like online by category. As well, you can view and share the bookmarks of celebrities, thought leaders, and your friends.
To make the product more social, they recently built a neat bookmark commenting interface that allows people to create a conversation around the content that they’re saving into personalized lists. Also, you can now “subscribe” to designated people or lists. For example, if you like everything Sir Richard Branson posts, you can subscribe to his profile. Or, if you like what Branson does with entrepreneurship, you have the option of subscribing to just his entrepreneurship list.
This sibling duo is proving wrong those who say that mixing family and business is a recipe for disaster. While still in beta, the MySocialCloud chrome extension is now available for adding any bookmark to your personalized profile lists (such as business, sports, fashion, comedy, etc.), sharing a bookmark with a friend or across multiple social platforms, and auto-logging in to any website online.
Quirky fact: even though they try to eat healthy, the young entrepreneurs remain Oreo and Snapple addicts. I guess that’s part of the startup life.
MySocialCloud was a showcased startup at our Tech Cocktail Los Angeles mixer in August.
