SXSW is a smorgasbord of music, film, and innovation. In fact, they’re so committed to innovation that they’re giving college student entrepreneurs who’ve innovated in the digital media sector a chance to prove their worth. That’s right eight student startups will be competing for it all in the finals of the Student Startup Madness (SSM) tournament.
The finals of the SSM tournament will take place at SXSW in Austin, Texas. The competition hones in on digital media startups and gives young entrepreneurs a platform to showcase their innovations, build a network with other entrepreneurs, and impress potential investors.
The first two rounds took place online, where 64 startups tried to impress the judges with everything they’ve got. In the end, the startups were whittling down to eight. Meet them below:
101: This company improves STEM classes in college by giving digital learning tools to students that help them better absorb and understand concepts.
Dycap Media Solutions: This startup developed software that automates filming using edge, motion, and facial recognition in order to potentially bypass the need for an operator. The software connects to pan tilt zoom cameras.
Find Your Ditto: This company is a mobile platform connecting individuals living with the same chronic illness locally for on-demand, in-person peer support.
Omnipointment: This startup helps students coordinate with each other, find times for group meetings and helps teachers understand how their student teams are working together.
Parihug: Parihug is a WiFi-enabled teddy bear that allows loved ones to hug each other from different ends of the world.
Reflexion Interactive Technologies: This startup developed a portable device that can determine whether an athlete has suffered a concussion.
Swifte: Swifte is a social platform that gives students and carpoolers a way to share rides and split costs with the ultimate aim of saving the environment.
Theatre Galleria: This startup created an online marketplace that allows theaters, theater professionals, prop houses, and costume houses to buy, sell, and exchange goods.
Converse VR (Alternate): Converse VR develops educational VR and AR games to engage, enhance, and make learning active.
