Whether or not you realize it, your organization stores data in the cloud on platforms such as Salesforce, Google apps, social media, and elsewhere.  For large organizations, retaining and aggregating all of that data, spread out in multiple places, is not easy.   Zeeland, MI-based Downstream has created an app that combines a private infrastructure with an annual subscription to replicate your online information off-site and thus give you control over your information.

This technology is super useful for regulatory compliance, audits, e-discovery, data portability, and data restoration and back-up.  But it’s not just for legal and IT departments; it can also be used by marketing and PR agencies and departments to conduct research and gather insights.

Downstream was founded by serial entrepreneur Aaron Schaap, who also founded Elevator Up, an application and web development firm, and Work the Factory, a coworking space in Grand Rapids, MI that was created in partnership with the office furniture manufacturer Steelcase to showcase their new products and create an inspiring space for startups and entrepreneurs.

Check them out at Funded by Night in Detroit this week, where they will be demoing their app.
