All you news junkies and iPad fanatics, you are in for a treat! News Corp. has launched The Daily, the first digital daily news publication that was built specifically for the iPad. After watching the intro video, I think it is an app you’ll want to download ASAP.
Each time you open your iPad, you can download the newest edition of The Daily to access breaking news, sports, pop culture, entertainment, apps, games, technology, opinion, and celebrity gossip—all with the rich graphics, storytelling, sharing, and interactive elements that makes the iPad so awesome. Stories are imbedded with interactive 360-degree photos, video, audio, and info-graphics, and you can easily share web-friendly versions of most of the articles and features via Facebook, Twitter, and email.
Here’s how it works:
When you open up an issue, you can choose a section to read: News, Gossip, Opinion, Arts & Life, Apps & Games, or Sports. Tap a section to access the articles there, then scroll through articles or flip the iPad like you would pages of a newspaper to get to the next page. (As someone who cannot give up her daily subscription to the Washington Post, that is my favorite feature).
Other cool features: The Daily remembers what you have read, so you don’t miss a thing. There’s a carousel function so you can quickly scroll through the entire edition. You can watch a video about today’s edition. You can click on hotspots to see what’s happening there. You can play Sudoku against other users. Oh, and the local weather feature—very important, especially with the winter we’ve been having.
Sounds awesome, doesn’t it? The Daily is available through Apple’s iTunes subscription service and via the iPad App Store for $0.99 a week or $39.99 a year. It will be offered on additional tablets over the coming months.
