You know it’s easy to keep up to date with what’s happening around you, as there is an app for that. Want to read the menus and receipts in dark restaurants? There is an app for that! And so many more, so every week it’s becoming a harder task to pick just five I think you should check out. So, without further ado, here is this week’s five.

Although I mostly get done what I need to do next day, since I hit the sack with that in mind, the first thing I do while drinking my first coffee is check my calendar. theSkimm aims to transform that place into an information-rich environment: For $2.99 per month, your calendar will show information such as when the Beyonce concert tickets go on sale, or the like. You can test it for one month for free, so try theSkimm now. It’s a free download from the App Store.

Over 40 Magnifying Glass with Flashlight

Sometimes you need to read the menu or receipt in a dark restaurant, or you need to determine a slip-tip value. That’s when Over 40 comes into the picture. It also acts as a vanity mirror, so you can check yourself out, since it allows users to zoom from 1× to 10×. Despite being just a digital zoom, it’s still nice. Download Over 40 from the App Store ($2.99 from Monday).

There is a new social media platform in town called Airtime. The app allows users to create rooms and invite friends to join that specific room so that the chat, group video, and much more fun action can begin. The photos, videos, and music shared can be viewed by or listened to by the people invited into the room. Come and test Airtime, available from the App Store and Google Play.

Steve – The Jumping Dinosaur Widget Game

Did you ever think you’d play a game right from your notification center? If not, you are not alone. Meet “Steve”, the jumping dinosaur, a nice game that can be played by just dragging down from the top of the screen. So, do you have a minute for a lightweight game? Download Steve from the App Store.

Tropical Wars

Speaking of games, here is another app you may want to check out this week: Tropical Wars, a strategy game where the koala tribe is under attack and needs your help. Lead your fleet to victory, and play Tropical Wars on your iPhone, iPod, or iPad. Download Tropical Wars from the App Store.
