Top 20 Cities With Growing Tech Jobs That Aren’t in Silicon Valley

In our latest report, we discovered that the top 10 tech jobs to have in 2017 include some form of engineer or developer role, and with it comes with higher pay.

While you might think that everyone will be running to Silicon Valley for these positions, tech employment is booming in cities around the country that offer a lower cost of living, less competition for positions and a burgeoning startup ecosystem.

In the latest report by Ziprecruiter et al. analyzed over 8 million jobs, locations, pay grades and growth rate from 2016-2017. Here are the top 20 cities showing growth in tech positions.

Huntsville, AL

From Bitcoin and edutech to wireless tech and healthcare, this city has seen a 309 percent growth in tech jobs with the top positions being:

  • Systems Engineer
  • Systems Specialist
  • Help Desk Support
  • Information Technology Specialist
Thousand Oaks, CA

Wanna head towards Silicon Beach? This city has seen a 200 percent growth with the top tech jobs including:

  • Project Manager
  • Network Engineer
  • Project Manager Coordinator
  • Quality Assurance Specialist
  • Software Test Engineer

This city keeps hitting the top five places to launch a startup. Phoenix is also known for its collaborative tech community and testing ground for autonomous vehicles Waymo and UBER. The city has shown a 188 percent growth in tech jobs including:
