5 Top Startup Tips from Corey and Lorena Egan of iLumi

Corey and Lorena Egan of iLumi Solutions liken entrepreneurship to steering a ship – a pirate ship, of course.

Their journey has been both exciting and rocky. iLumi builds LED lightbulbs that can be controlled via smartphone and emit any color. The team has gone through not one but two Indiegogo campaigns, raising over $35,000 and then another $25,000.

On top of that, Corey and Lorena have to negotiate the tricky challenge of being married and working together.

Here are their top five tips for keeping the ship running smoothly and staying on course.

  1. Prepare yourself for the discomfort.
  2. Find time for family.
  3. Be humble and ask for help.
  4. Be active and get involved.
  5. Relish in the challenges and rely on your support network.

The Egans joined us at Tech Cocktail Week in June to share these tips and their story. Here’s the video.
