Not all the innovation in downtown Las Vegas is happening in the Fremont East neighborhood. On Tuesday, The D Las Vegas Casino Hotel and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino (both part of the historic Fremont Experience) announced they’ll be accepting bitcoin as payment.

Patrons can use bitcoin at the front desk, in the D’s gift shop, or to get a Detroit coney dog at the D’s American Coney Island. All bitcoin transactions will be processed via third-party BitPay, which will integrate into or alongside the different point of sale systems at the hotels.

“I’m proud that the D and Golden Gate will be the first casino properties to accept Bitcoin,” said co-owner and CEO of the D and Golden Gate, Derek Stevens. “We’re located in the growing high-tech sector of downtown Las Vegas, and like all things downtown, we’re quickly adaptive to new technology. The timing is right for us to launch this initiative, and I’m happy to be able to offer this to our customers.”

It’ll be interesting to check back with The D and Golden Gate over the coming months to see what kind of usage bitcoin is getting.
