Urgent.ly is a roadside assistance app that offers pay-as-you-go service for everything from flat tires, to empty gas tanks, to lock outs. They also offer a Family View features that allows users to pay for their family/friends’ services and also watch in real time as help arrives.
The partnership with Zendrive will hopefully provide Urgent.ly subscribers with a sounder peace of mind while driving. According to the Zendrive blog, their technology is:
“The first-ever service to detect auto accidents using only the sensors on a smartphone. The software development kit (SDK) tells your app when there’s an accident in real-time, so you can build features to respond and help, like alerting emergency services, tow trucks, or loved ones, or even giving parents peace of mind or helping mitigate liability costs.”
Urgent.ly founder Chris Spanos says he hopes the partnership will help users in the following ways.
- By proactively monitoring and detecting accidents and serving our users faster in moments of need by reducing the number of steps required to request service.
- By integrating accident detection into Urgent.ly’s Family View features, family members will be alerted in case of an accident
Aside from this latest partnership, we also asked Spanos what he considers to be the benefits of having his startup based in DC. He credits some of the company’s continuing success to the community and ecosystem in DC that is so supportive of startups. It’s also a “highly sophisticated, tech savvy market with diverse demographics which makes it great to test and launch new products and services.”
Last month, Urgent.ly announced that AT&T would be implementing the company’s app into AT&T’s Drive connected car services platform. Urgent.ly is currently available in every state and more than 150 markets.
