Miami-based startup Videoo has announced that it has successfully raised $1.625M in seed funding from Accelerator Growth Partners (AGP), other prominent funds and angel investors in the U.S. and Brazil. The funding will help the company’s effort to become the largest aggregator, integrator, and curator of social videos online.
Videoo allows users to mash-up favorite videos from various social media platforms into a playlist. So you basically create your own “best of” video using content from Instagram, Twitter and Vine. You follow a hashtag and curate videos around it to create your own. These playlists are powered by an algorithm that leverages user engagement like “boosting” to bring the best content to the top.
“We’re evolving social video from ‘me’ to ‘we’ in 2015,” says Videoo CEO & Co-Founder Barry Stamos. “We help to organize the billions of videos uploaded online. Now, instead of broadcasting a siloed video to the world on competing apps, fragmented sites or social networks, Videoo is connecting user-generated content across the social video ecosystem. We aspire to ‘complete’ where others ‘compete’,” he adds.
Similar to Snapchat’s “Our Story” feature, the idea is to encourage users to share experiences around one event.
Videoo has partnered with The Huffington Post, Fusion (joint venture between Univision, Disney and ABC), and SK Energy to create video campaigns to raise awareness for various causes. Earlier this year, Videoo partnered with the Bob Marley Family and started the #Share1Love social video movement, where people were encouraged to upload their videos through the Videoo player and share their message of love inspired by the legendary singer’s music. In return, Videoo donated $1 (up to $25,000) to charity: water for each person who uploads their #Share1Love video to bobmarley.com/share1love.
The movement has already generated 416MM impressions with people watching the crowd sourced social video content in 211 countries. Celebrities, including Jason Mraz and Richard Branson, have participated by uploading a video and challenging their fans to play a part.
