“To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honors.”

One of the hardest decisions a family has to make is the decision to put their elderly loved ones in assisted living. Our biggest worry is always that when you give others control over the happiness and health of your family members, they do not cherish the responsibility as much as you do. Inspired by his own experience, Eduardo Leon, Co-founder of Virtual Visit, and his team built a platform that gives family members the peace of mind and empowers assisted living workers with the tools they need to provide quality care.

Virtual Visit is a portal for family members and the assisted living staff to communicate about the well-being of their elderly loved ones. The app enables families to get real-time updates about their family members and gives the assisted living staff more insight into their patients. By incorporating video chat, family members will also be able to see the care and connect with their elderly loved one.

As one of the finalists of the Tech Cocktail Dallas Showcase, Virtual Visit recalls their beginnings as winners of Startup Weekend: Health last September, where the team met. They are currently in the top B2B accelerator, Tech Wildcatters, where they’ve been hard at work on their platform.

Here is some insight into Virtual Visit from Eduardo:

How do you Keep your Team Motivated?

We are building something that ultimately will improve the lives of others. We know families want Virtual Visit, we know there is a need for this; ensuring the team is focused on that when we have tough meetings or days keeps us going.

What Encouraging Sign Of Success have you experienced on your startup journey?

We are currently a part of Tech Wildcatters’ class of 2015. Being accepted was definitely validation for us, especially since we’re still very early stage. The support we receive from the mentors and team here is very encouraging!

What’s the biggest Advantage & Disadvantage to starting up in your City?

Dallas, TX is exploding with entrepreneurial activity. There are strong leaders who are not only growing a phenomenal startup community, but also changing the way people think about doing business in Texas. It’s also a huge hub for many large businesses, making it very attractive for B2B startups. I’d say a disadvantage would be the tougher terms that startups seem to face when raising capital as opposed to the West Coast. It’s changing, though, so I’m not too worried about it.

If your Startup Were a Cocktail, what would it be?

Any cocktail with four ingredients that complement each other really well. We have four founders, including myself, and we all have different backgrounds and skill sets that have allowed us to have a really well rounded team.

Why should we Use your Product?

Imagine being able to pick up your phone, and know that your loved one is getting the care that she deserves!
