Facebook has over 500 million users and with it a dizzying array of friendship connections. Facebook engineer intern Paul Butler recently analyzed the data to create a visualization of these connections. In a recent Facebook blog post Paul explained:
“Visualizing data is like photography. Instead of starting with a blank canvas, you manipulate the lens used to present the data from a certain angle.”
The lines show Facebook accounts and their links to friends in other cities. It is interesting to see the massive amount of friend connections North America in contrast to Russia and Australia as an indicator of Facebook’s saturation in the various regions.
