Before they launch their companies, startup founders have to ask a lot of questions. “Is there market demand for this product?” “Can we start production at a reasonable cost?” “Does anyone actually want what we’re selling?” But when all is said and done, running a business comes down to a single question: will this fly?

The key to answering that questions lies at the Will This Fly? (WTF?) pitch competition in Huntsville, Alabama. 16 regional companies from Mobile, AL; Nashville, TN; Atlanta, GA; Huntsville, AL; and Birmingham, AL hope to have what it takes to impress the judges. The field of startups is notably impressive and Rocket Hatch founder Antonio Montoya is excited about what lies ahead.

“We are very pleased with the quality of the submittals received this year,” Montoya said in a statement. “It is great to see more mature and sophisticated business models that reflect the potential of our ecosystem. We can’t wait to see them on stage.”

Competitors will present their startups for a panel of esteemed judges from PROJECTXYZ, Boostphase, Alabama Launchpad, Innovation Depot’s Velocity Accelerator, GIGTANK and the Tonic Regional Fund. Seven of the 16 semifinalists will move on to the finals to present to a full audience of award judges and competition attendees. The competition kicks off on May 7th at Stone Center on Campus No. 805.

Check out the list of startups below and vote for your favorite startup in the Will This Fly? pitch competition. Which of these semifinalists do you think deserves to move on in the competition?
