Wall Street Journal on #MiamiTech: “Would You Believe Miami Has a Real Tech Scene?”

If the Wall Street Journal is starting to believe, let’s say it’s time for everyone else to!

The article titled “Would You Believe It? Miami Has a Real Tech Scene Now” was published May 30th and talks about Miami startup scene, and how it is driven in part by U.S. companies seeking to tap Latin America’s expanding technology market.

The writer talks about the various groups nurturing the scene, which includes The Knight Foundation, Endeavor and events like eMerge Americas Techweek. It also mentions Miami’s success stories, like Open English, .CO and Carecloud.

Moreover, it talks about the growth of investment in the area, jumping to “$369 million in 2013 from $102 million in 2010, according to VentureSource.”

The writer does mention some of Miami’s shortcomings, including the lack of funding from local investors and lack of mentorship.
