Just in Time for Holiday Shopping: Crowdsourced Store Curation at Wanelo

Out of gift ideas for your dad, who already has everything, or your cousin, who you barely know but you’re her Secret Santa?  Take a look around San Francisco-based Wanelo, a socially-curated store and bookmarking tool that can help you find, save, and share interesting and unique products online.

Wanelo, whose name is derived from Want, Need, Love, lets users post, collect and organize products and follow people and stores they like.  Yes, it’s kind of like Pinterest, but with a shopping focus, and unlike Etsy, Wanelo has all types of products, not just crafts.  If you’re familiar with Polyvore, Wanelo differs from that too, as their site is less aspirational.

Products on the beautifully designed site are categorized by home & office, entertainment, women, kids, men, and tech.  I was curious to see what was in the tech section beyond iPod, iPad and Mac cases – there were a lot – and a lot of cool ones at that.  There were also a lot of retro-looking cameras, but I also found a digital piggy bank and solar-charged lights that look like mason jars.

Wanelo was one of our showcased startups at our Tech Cocktail San Francisco mixer on Wednesday night, so if you missed meeting the team there, definitely check out their site while you are doing your online holiday shopping.
