Taking on the $70 billion wedding industry in what seemed like a business savvy and calculated manner, WeddingWire quickly took on wedding customers and vendors when they began in 2007, grew revenues and today announced they acquired Project Wedding. WeddingWire is a DC-area startup founded by former BlackBoard co-founder Timothy Chi among others. In 2008, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. bought a 40 percent stake in the site which was already generating almost a million dollars in revenue a year at that point.

“WeddingWire is an innovative leader in the wedding category and will continue to make Project Wedding a valuable resource for brides who want to find the best local vendors to make their wedding days memorable,” says Greg Steiner, eHarmony’s President and Chief Operating Officer.

It looks like a nice marriage of two products that help people connect and plan for their own perfect “big day”, which at the end of the day, means big dollars.
