TheGatesNotesWith the new year, we all make New Year’s resolutions and this year it is pretty clear Bill Gates is on a mission to be more social in 2010 by embracing social media. What do I mean? Well, yesterday, Bill decided to embrace social media by starting to use Twitter. With only 5 tweets posted he has already accumulated over 100,000 followers and last I checked he has about 258,000. Oh and you can add to the total by following him – @BillGates. Last summer, Bill Gates quit Facebook saying “it was too much trouble” but yesterday he decided to rejoin Facebook too. TechCrunch and Examiner covered Bill’s Twitter and Facebook moves yesterday.

Today, Bill launched a new site by announcing it on his less than a day old Twitter account with this tweet (below).

The new site is called The Gates Notes, a very polished blog with photos and videos and updates about his projects, thoughts, ideas and travels. I watched some of the videos and they had similar messages to those I saw while attending The Gates Foundation The Living Proof event in DC last October. The site does not have an RSS feed but I assume updates will be sent to Twitter and Facebook as the main outreach mechanism.

So I am curious to see what comes next in Bill Gates’ social media experimentation. Is it The Gates Notes video podcast launched to YouTube and iTunes? Bill Gates checking in on Foursquare? Or dare I say the launch of Bill Gates iPhone and Android application? Regardless, it is nice to see Bill embracing the new social technologies to spread his message and thoughts far and wide as he looks to do some good in the World with the help of his wife Melinda and The Gates Foundation. We’ll be keeping an eye on Bill and his travels, learnings and updates.
