SXSW Interactive attracts over 32,000 attendees (along with Film), scattered across a handful of venues in downtown Austin. Some people are corporate employees, some are individuals, and others are startup entrepreneurs. Here’s where to find the startups.
Located on the fourth floor of the Downtown Austin Hilton, this is where a lot of the startup action takes place. You’ll find panels, meetups, lounges, pitches, and mentoring. The Startup Spotlight, with pitches from 18 early-stage startups, happens on March 8 from 4-6 pm. The SXSW Accelerator, a demo day-style event with pitches from 48 startups, runs from March 11-12. And on March 9, you’ll find a day of lean startup panels and presentations with guests like Eric Ries and Dave McClure. Startup America will be doing a series of panels from March 8-11 and hosting startups at their studio and lounge.
Hours: March 8, 2-6 pm; March 9-12, 9:30 am-6 pm
Here’s a roundup of SXSW sessions that would be most interesting to entrepreneurs – and where you’ll likely find the startup crowd. Also take a look at the hackathons and workshops on things like UI, raising funding, and coding, and select book signings from The Oatmeal’s Matthew Inman and lean startup pioneer Eric Ries.
The SXSW trade show is mostly home to larger companies that can afford the booth fees, which range from $2,400 to over $14,000. But a few exhibitors should be of interest: the startup communities #VegasTech and Startups from Korea, and startups like SCVNGR, Seamless, and Seed&Spark.
Hours: March 10-12, 11 am-6 pm; March 13, 11 am-4 pm
