The former founders of Pergunter, Paulo Costa and Henrique Torelli, recently launched a mobile application called Who is Happy for both iOS and Android users. The app is a geo-location check in service for cannabis consumers.
It works in a very simple manner. Users that have just consumed cannabis simply press a button that displaying a green radius of 1km on their virtual map, visually indicating that the user is happy. Additionally users can see other happy users in proximity, monitor individual country data, observe a ranking of the happiest countries in the world, and if the user desires, receive information about their own happiness.
The idea came to Costa after he began to understand the relationship between cannabis and epilepsy, an ailment he was diagnosed with at the age of 18. Costa is still affected, and he needs to take strong medication on a daily basis which negatively impacts his lifestyle.
“I take two types of medication, twice daily, that changes my coordination, cognition and memory,” says Costa. “It’s nonsense knowing that there are many medical centers with documented studies showing that the proper use of cannabis can improve the quality of life for patients with epilepsy. Unfortunately most of the population in the world doesn’t have access.”
According to the ArcView Group, the legal US cannabis market is worth $2.34 billion, and rising quickly. We’ve seen a lot of tech entrepreneurs ride the wave of the cannabis industry recently with platforms like MassRoots: Costa and Torelli are well positioned for the future of the legal cannabis industry.
“We don’t want to be just an app. The Who is Happy brand was developed to be part of the lives of our users,” says Costa. “We’re not only on mobile devices, but also living a lifestyle that we think is important to the world to share: happiness.”
